Intelligent Low-Carbon Complete Electric Furnace Equipment Mass-Produced to Empower Green Transformation of Short-Process Steelmaking

Recently, a set of independently developed 120-ton ultra-high power intelligent complete electric furnace equipment from a domestic high-end metallurgical equipment enterprise has successfully passed full-line hot commissioning and officially put into operation at a special steel base in Shandong. The whole production line integrates an electric arc furnace body, intelligent power supply system, continuous scrap preheating unit, flue gas waste heat recovery system, automatic refining supporting facilities and a digital twin operation & maintenance platform, realizing closed-loop integrated control of the whole smelting process, and setting a benchmark for low-carbon renovation of regional steel industry.
According to the project manager, the complete set of electric furnace equipment launched this time has made breakthroughs in multiple domestic core technologies. Equipped with a new-generation intelligent electrode regulation system, automatic temperature measuring and sampling robot and continuous horizontal feeding module, it thoroughly solves industry pain points of traditional electric furnaces such as frequent heat loss from furnace opening, disordered flue gas emission and large manual operation errors. Operation data of the equipment shows that power consumption per ton of steel is reduced to less than 360 kWh, over 20% lower than that of traditional outdated furnaces, and the single-furnace smelting cycle is shortened to 35 minutes. The comprehensive emission of nitrogen oxides and dust is cut by more than 32%. The supporting waste heat recovery system converts high-temperature flue gas waste heat into heat source for factory production and heating, which can recover heat equivalent to more than 8,000 tons of standard coal every year and reduce carbon emissions by 42,000 tons annually, fully complying with the national mandatory standard Energy Consumption Limit for Heat Treatment Electric Furnaces and national policies on expanding electric furnace steel capacity.
At present, the annual output of domestic scrap steel resources exceeds 320 million tons. The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has clarified plans to continuously raise the proportion of electric furnace steel capacity. Demand for renovating high-energy-consumption outdated electric furnaces in existing steel plants and constructing new short-process steel plants is booming. Industry statistics predict that the market scale of complete electric furnace equipment in China will exceed 14 billion yuan in 2026, among which the penetration rate of high-end integrated complete equipment with energy-saving and intelligent functions will rise above 65%.
This complete electric furnace project adopts a turnkey EPC mode, where the enterprise provides full-chain services including process design, equipment manufacturing, on-site installation and commissioning, as well as operation and maintenance training for staff, breaking the technical monopoly of overseas brands in the field of large-scale intelligent complete electric furnaces. In the next step, the enterprise will deepen industry-university-research cooperation, iterate and upgrade complete electric furnace equipment adapted to hydrogen-based reduced iron, and develop customized complete solutions for special steel and recycled metal smelting. It will rely on domestically produced high-end electric furnace equipment to boost the short-process transformation of China’s steel industry and advance the realization of the "Dual Carbon" goals.
